Description: Victor Chunga "Vee" "Tor"
Birthday 5/09/87
Gender/Sexuality: Male, Gay
Languages: Fluent in English, Spanish, and ASL
Education: Graduated from Smithtown High School class of 2005 Associate in Psychology and Bachelor in Sociology. Certified paralegal from Blackstone. And a certified American Sign Language interpreter from MCSP DOCCs.
Music: I'm open to all music, though the older I get the harder it gets not to be stuck in the music I know. Any playlist I make MUST have: Fleetwood Mac - Landslide Johnny Cash - Hurt Christina Aguilera - Fighter Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry Amy Winehouse - Tears Dry On Their Own (entire Back To Black) Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know (entire Jagged Little Pill) All Britney Spears, N*Sync, Cher, PCD, Whitney Houston, I can go on forever.
Shows/Movies: Cruel Intentions, Mean Girls, and Waiting To Exhale are top 3. Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Sex and The City, Friends, Sailor Moon, Zodiac Warriors, and Charmed raised me.
I've been incarcerated since December 2007, and for the past 15 years I've hid behind my guilt and shame, shutting myself off from the world, believing the mere mention of my name would reopen the wounds of all who were hurt. I don't want to hide anymore, and I'm ready to make a real effort to rejoin society. Although I may be a little bit socially awkward from all the years of being a shut-in, but this is me "putting myself out there." My goal is a PhD. I want to call my studies Moral Psychology (IDK if that's a field, if not I'll make it one; if they can do it with Ancient Astronaut Theory and cryptozoology, why can't I?), studying the act of murder, particularly how it affects the perpetrator. Most, if not all, testimonies are from the victims' POV; however, they're not the actual victim's words since they're dead. Shouldn't we at least try to look inside the mind of the murderer since they're the ones who are still part of society? Murder has been part of the human story from Day One, from Cain and Abel to the extinction of Neanderthals coinciding with the arrival of Homo Sapiens. Yet society still acts as if only a "monster" could commit such an act, all the while binge watching murder as entertainment. Truth is, anyone can be a murderer. A mother shooting and killing a home intruder, a robber killing the victim, a drunk driver hitting and killing a pedestrian, a father killing his daughter's rapist, a soldier killing another soldier in war. It's all murder, and society judges these acts differently, but is that how the person committing the act feels? Of all crimes, murder has the lowest recidivism rate, but carries the longest sentences and highest amount of parole denials. I'm not looking to justify murder, only seeking to gain a better understanding. If we break something, we fix it. But there's no fixing murder, so one must fix what one can. It's a responsibility we owe victims, society, and ourselves. If anything I just said resonates with you, please write me at: Victor Chunga DIN#08A4074 Shawangunk C.F. P.O Box 700 Wallkill, NY 12589 Or message me through jpay by downloading the free app at jpay.com and entering my information. I'm looking to collaborate with college students interested in working with the prison population, publish research papers, and make a difference. OR if you just want to chat, msg me. I swear I'm not this intense 24/7. If you'd like to read some of my works, I placed 3rd in the 2024 PEN America Prison Writing Contest for my essay "Am I Sober?" (I also got a 2017 Honorable Mention for my memoir "In My Time," though I doubt it's still up on the website). And in 2021 I published a zombie fiction book titled The Ones Who Survive under the penname Victor Manuel, which should still be available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Ask me anything, I'm an open book! |
